Pesara Garelu(moong dal vada)

Hi! This recipe is one of my favourite snack.This recipe is crispy,spicy,nutritious and yummy.:)I hope you too like this.In this recipe i added cabbage instead of onion.This tip i have learnt from my mom.she used to add the cabbage in such type of recipes like upma,noodles or any snack etc so at least that way i can eat this vegetable.

moong dal(whole) - 1cup
green chillies 3-4(acc to ur taste)
cabbage or onion (finely chopped)
ginger (small piece)
garlic - 1pod
cumin seeds(jeelakarra) - 1tspn
bengal gram (senaga pappu) - 1/4cup
curry leaves or corrainder leaves(chopped)
oil  for deep fry

1. Soak the  moong dal for 5hrs.After this,wash and drain the water from dal completely.
2. Grind dal without water along with green chilies,ginger,garlic and salt.

3. To the grinded mixture add the chopped pieces of cabbage or onion,corriander leaves,bengal gram(soaked for 10min),cumin seeds and mix it.

4. Heat about 2 to 3 cups of oil on medium-high flame.when the oil is hot, flatten a lemon size batter either on a plastic Ziploc bag or a wet cloth or on a hand, slowly slide the flatternbatter into the hot oil.

5. Fry the vadas on medium flame on both sides, till slightly golden brown.Remove it and put it in paper towel. 

Your hot and spicy "pesara garelu" are ready to serve with sauce or chutney.

  • I have taken whole moong dal bcoz of that u get darker colour if you use split moong dal(pesara pappu)soak,wash and remove the skin(not completely bcoz the skin gives crunchiness) you get golden brown colour.
  • Adding cabbage and bengal gram gives more crunchy to this dish.Add either cabbage or onion.
